Patriot Honor Roll
The personal Patriots remembered by this Interactive American Flag includes:
Continental Army Veteran
Deborah Sampson (aka Robert Shirtliff)
Picture
Born December 17, 1760 in Plympton, Massachusetts
17 months of service in Continental Army (May 20, 1782 - October 25, 1783) disguised as "Robert Shirtliff" - an infantry soldier
Served with Light Infantry Company, 4th Massachusetts Regiment
Wounded twice, by British musket bullet shots to her thigh, at Battle of Tarrytown in New York on July 3, 1782

Removed one bullet on her own with a knife and left the other bullet, too deep to reach, in her thigh

Received an honorable discharge from the Continental Army at West Point on October 25, 1783
Married Benjamin Gannett in 1785 and had 3 children
Died from yellow fever in 1827, at 66 years old, in Sharon, MA

We honor and thank Continental Army soldier and patriot, Deborah Sampson, for fighting for America's freedom.

Soldier Deborah Sampson inspires us with a quote reflecting her determination to serve:

"Why can I not fight for my country too?"
