US Marine Corporal Max Donahue, 23, served as part of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) with I Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group, I Marine Expeditionary Force deployed from Camp Pendleton, CA KIA / Died August 7, 2010, from wounds suffered from an IED explosion on August 4, while supporting combat operations in Helmand Province, Afghanistan

And, his mom stated, "He loved working with the dogs." So, when Max turned down a safer assignment to go to Iraq, he told his mom, "That's what I'm trained to do. They need me over there and my buddies are over there." His mom then realized, "he was a Marine man and not my boy."
