[ the only Lone Tree resident killed during the Global War on Terror (GWOT) ] Marine Corporal (Cpl.) Degiovine, 25, served as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) with the 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force out of Camp Lejeune, NC Killed in action, on April 26, 2007, while on combat patrol in Anbar province, Iraq

Christopher Degiovine Born November 28, 1981 in Burlington, VT Proud, polite, athletic boy and young man who had a knack for tech stuff Played soccer at Essex High School 2000 Graduate of Essex HS Graduated from Champlain College with Criminal Justice degree in 2005 Moved with HS sweetheart, Rachel Young, to Colorado and decided to fulfill his military passion by joining the Corps Married Rachel in 2005 just before shipping off to Marine boot camp - where he excelled at Marksmanship Avid golfer who loved being a Marine and got along with everybody Meritoriously promoted to Corporal and served as Tank and Assault Amphibious Vehicle Crewman (MOS 1800) Arrived in Iraq in April 2007 and was KIA by an IED later that month while on AAV (Amphibious Assault Vehicle) patrol Survived by his dad and wife

The white tablecloth symbolizes the purity of the Fallen's answer to our country’s call to arms The single red rose signifies the blood they shed for our freedom The red ribbon symbolizes our continued determination to never forget their sacrifice The candle represents the light of hope that our other brothers and sisters in arms will return home safely The Bible symbolizes the prayers we offer for the Fallen and their family & friends in mourning The slice of lemon represents the bitter fate of those who died on foreign soil The pinch of salt signifies the tears shed for those who have fallen The glass is inverted because they cannot toast with us The black napkin represents the sorrow for our fallen The Purple Heart Medal is given to those wounded or killed during combat action And, the folded American Flag represents the military burial flag given to the family of our fallen
