************* iHonor GWOT Fallen: Kansas National Guard - Army Sergeant Derrick J. Lutters of Burlington, CO
SGT Lutters, 24, served as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) with the 891st Engineer Battalion, Kansas Army National Guard deployed from Pittsburg, KS Killed in action, on May 1, 2005, by a vehicle-borne IED (improvised explosive device) detonation while conducting a recon of the supply route south of Baghdad, Iraq
We honor and thank Kansas National Guard Army Sergeant Lutters for defending our freedoms and fighting to liberate the lives of others.
Derrick Joseph Lutters Born in Goodland, KS on June 26, 1980 High School Varsity Wrestler Remembered for inspirational wrestling match against special needs opponent - his self-sacrifice earned standing ovation 1999 Graduate of Goodland HS Served as Corrections Officer in Burlington, CO Volunteered to go to Iraq with Kansas National Guard because he was a "peacemaker" and wanted to help its citizens
