U.S. Army Private First Class Jesse Givens
Died on May 1, 2003 while serving as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom
Private First Class (PFC) Givens, age 34, of Springfield, Missouri; was assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Fort Carson, Colorado.
He was killed in Habbaniyah, Iraq when the M1-A1 Abrams tank he was driving tumbled into the Euphrates River when its river bank collapsed.
We honor and thank U.S. Army PFC Givens for defending our freedoms and fighting to liberate the lives of others.
Jesse, a proud husband and father, inspires us with his farewell letter home:
In an excerpt from his letter, Jess wrote, "Don't ever think that since I wasn't around that I didn't love you. You were conceived of love and I came to this terrible place for love. I love you as I do your mom and brother with all my heart and soul. Please understand that I had to be gone so that I could take care of my family.”
